Second Weekly Journal Entry

Relating to my previous post, I was seposed to make a journal entry for every other day, but as it turned out Mr. R changed it to per week so here is my weekly journal entry.

During science we are learning about fungi and protists. They are small microorganisms that live in water or moist habitats. They come in many different shapes and sizes and can look really cool. Soon in science we are going to be examining them with microscopes which i can’t wait to do because I have always been fascinated by the micro-world. Outside of the classroom is an aqua-pool. It is seposed to be a pond with fish, bacteria and other things for science class but it’s currently not done being made.

In Language Arts class we started reading more of our book A Wrinkle in Time and it is getting interesting because the main characters have just found their long lost father and our now fighting IT, the evil floating brain. We also were given sheets to complete about them which was easy. After that we learnt about themes and about which themes were most important in the book. We had to write a post about it. You can click hereto see it. For social studies we continued playing our Race to Makkah game, you can read any of the Caravan blogs about them in the Islamic categories.

For math we were learning about proportions and percents. We had lots of homework on that because we were preparing for the big test. It had 20 questions but lasted a long time in which I nearly fell asleep.

For my extra classes like Spanish, art-2D, and outdoor education nothing exiting happened during the week.

Thats all for this week, but I will have a new post about next week soon.

Caravan blog - Day 4

For our final project, my group is going to be acting out three story’s from 1001 Night’s. This book has 1001 stories inside it (the title sort of gives it away) and all of them are used to teach people lessons. The story which I want to pick is Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, it is about this boy who finds this lamp with a genie inside it who grants whim three wishes. The story is really long but if you would like to read a simpler version of it click here, or if your feeling adventurous try the original version. Personally I went with the simpler version. Here is were we are in the race to Makkah:

Spots Moved: 0

Here are five facts that I learnt:

2) Allah is Arabic for God

3) The two main branches of Islam are Shia and Sunnis

4) Eurasia has the most population of Muslims

5) The symbol of Muslims is the crescent moon and star

A Wrinkle in time - Themes

In the book “A Wrinkle in Time” it discusses a lot of themes such as: Good vs. Evil, Family Loyalty, Importance of Making Choices, and Individuality vs. Conformity. I think that the most important theme in the book is Individuality vs. Conformity, this is because in the book this topic is talked about a lot like when Meg is talking about not liking being different but not wanting to be the same as everyone else. Also on the planet where everyone is alike, they have an argument with IT about how you are seposed to be different. I think this is a important topic in our life since nearly everyone is affected by other people and want to be similar to them when we should all try to be ourselves.

My overall impression of this book was that it was amazingly written so that it talked about real life issues in a different way. The part which I liked the best was the planet where Aunt Beast lived (This weird furry creature with tentacles) because it seemed as if everything was so simple and beautiful even if it was all a grayish color. The part which I didn’t like was when they where on the Two dimensional planet, it was so surprising and creepy that such a planet was real in the book.

Tree In The Forest

Call me sentimental, but I found this video on youtube and I found it very sad. I think that the message that it’s trying to tell is that you should never be ashamed of yourself and accept who you are.

First Journal Entry

As well as our Caravan Journal we are supposed to make a journal about school every other day. Here is my first one.

What did we talk about?  In language arts today Mr. R gave us a lecture on how we should write alot on our blogs and that we should work hard on them. He said that we should always reread and proofread every entry to make it perfect. Because the key to getting people to reading our blog is to have a neat and organized blog where there are good pieces of writing. Today in L.A. we also talked about the book A Wrinkle in Time

and we discussed the relationships between the soviet union and how the planet in the book were related and also from where the author got her inspiration from.

What did I learn today?  Today in Outdoor Education we watched a movie called “Outbreak” it was about a unknown virus getting loose in the world and infecting and killing people in 2days. I learnt that unknown viruses can cause alot of damage to the world, especially deadly ones. In the movie nearly every person in the African village where it started died, to stop the virus from spreading the U.S. military blew up the village but the it continued to spread through the illegal trade of wild animals including infected monkeys.

What did you dream about? I dreamt about a unknown virus spreading across the world killing everyone, so me and my friends all went into the forest and created our own hidden city which was protected from all the pain and suffering. Until the army blew it up. For the rest of the school i pretty much had a blank brain or fell asleep.

What did you want to say? This part is for things that you wanted to say during class but didn’t get the chance to do it. The problem is that i talk freely everyday which drives my teacher insane, so i usually say everything i want to say and more.

Other comments? Our class is very different to other classes i have noticed, none of them have their own blogs or stand up for 10min. in the “actor position” to relax your body in brain. While I am not sure if our classes are better than others I do know that I wouldn’t want to be in any other class.

Caravan Journel

Every other day for Social Studies we work on our Islamic unit, at the end of the day we are sepoused to make a journal entry about what we did and learned. Here is my first one.

Today in class for our Islamic unit we got into groups of three or four and played a game sort of like monopoly.  We all start with 20Dirhams then we roll 2 dice and depending on the number we get we take a certain card. Wisdom cards tell a little about Islam and helps prepare for the final test. Quiz cards give you a quiz about the unit and if you win you get money. We earned 8Dirhams so we have 28Dirhams now, also for every 10Dirhams you get you move 1space on the map and the first person to get to the end wins. We didn’t move.

Some things i learned today are:

1) The word Arab means lacking moisture

2) The men would travel in-front of the women and children when they would be traveling through the dessert to protect them from snakes and scorpions

3) Nearly half of all Arabs are Christian

4) Early Arabs used to be nomads

5) Arabs pray on prayer rugs
